General Music I (designed for early elementary school students)
Meet the Brass Family: An up close encounter with the brass instruments.
Allow your students to explore the many voices of the brass family
as the Gaudete Brass performs selections from the great brass literature.
We will demonstrate the sounds and ranges of the Trumpet, Horn,
Trombone, and Tuba, as well as the Flugelhorn, Piccolo Trumpet,
and Euphonium. We will demonstrate some of the more unusual sounds
that brass instruments can make, such as multi-phonics, glisses,
and flutter-tongue, as well as the color changes created by different
kinds of mutes.
General Music II (designed for middle school and later elementary
school students)
Beyond the Three “Bs”: An encounter with the classical
music of today.
How does the musical tradition of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms impact
music today? The Gaudete Brass Quintet will present selections of
music from the 20th and 21st centuries and discuss how they relate
to music of the past, as well as how composers incorporate elements
of popular styles and music from non-European cultures into the
classical music tradition practiced today.
Program for Instrumentalists I (designed for the early stages
of the band program)
Up Close with the Gaudete Brass: Discovering Chamber Music
How good can these instruments sound anyway? This program is designed
to give a developing instrumentalist an opportunity to hear chamber
music played at a high level, as well as to observe the members
of the quintet “up close.” The Gaudete Brass will perform
a variety of selections from the brass repertoire and discuss basic
methods of problem solving within the ensemble or section. This
program can be used to encourage participation in solo and ensemble
competitions.
Program for Instrumentalists II (designed for high school
band students)
“Beyond Band: Creating Your Own Musical Opportunities and
Enjoyment”
This clinic is designed to encourage high school students to take
an interest in playing chamber music and finding or creating great
musical experiences beyond the established programs at school and
to show what a chamber music group can do. The Gaudete Brass will
perform for the students, then discuss the basics of forming a group,
essential steps to improve the group, and how to deal with the inevitable
conflicts that arise in any group setting. We will discuss opportunities
available to more serious groups, as well as unconventional forms
of chamber music. This program can be used to encourage participation
in solo and ensemble competitions.
