Welcome to the resource page for the Chicago Neighborhoods Fanfare Project.
Each piece should be about 3 minutes long, but no longer than 5 minutes.
The piece need not be a fanfare, but could be anything that you are interested in writing for brass quintet that celebrates a neighborhood or aspect of a neighborhood.
We would like the piece to be around the level of challenging but playable for a good high school brass quintet as we hope that these pieces will serve as inspiration for the upcoming generation of Chicago brass chamber musicians.
Here is a list for reference of the 77 Community Areas in Chicago. I have listed common neighborhoods associated with each community area for ease of reference. There was an excellent chart on wikipedia that I have linked below that helped me understand how these were related. Please feel free to pick a neighborhood or feature of an area that you would like to celebrate, the piece need not reference everything about a community area, something that would of course be impossible in a 3-5 min piece.
